New Hartford, Connecticut · Seeking a permanent role — remote, hybrid, or onsite in the Greater Hartford and New Haven areas
Chris C. A. Martell — Learning and Development Manager
I build enterprise training programs that make complex technology adoption manageable. Twenty-three years across utilities, energy, and manufacturing, including a 50-person training organization at Eversource Energy — who hired me back for a second program after the first one. I’m looking for a permanent team to build a learning function with, for the long haul.

| Camlock Systems | Permanent roles. 2018–2019 as Marketing & Product Manager, then invited back 2022–2023 to run projects and product for the US business |
| Eversource Energy | Two contract engagements. 2019–2022, promoted from instructional designer to manager-level scope over a 50-person training organization, then invited back 2023–2024 to rescue a stalled SAP program |
| E Source | Permanent role. 2025–2026, leading user readiness for an enterprise permitting and licensing rollout; the client contract closed and the project team was eliminated in a company reorganization |
Two of those three were permanent roles. Eversource brought me in on contract twice — once to build a training organization, once to rescue a program that had stalled. And two of the three asked me to come back.
What I do
Enterprise training programs
Full ADDIE lifecycle for SAP, S/4HANA, Maximo, and permitting rollouts — from training needs analysis and skills gap assessment through facilitation and Kirkpatrick evaluation.
Change and user adoption
User readiness for software adoption across departments, contractors, and vendors, including integrated User Acceptance Testing and End User Training regimens.
Building L&D teams
Hiring, coaching, and certifying trainers through formal train-the-trainer programs, and running the metrics, reporting, and compliance tracking behind them.
Instructional design
Blended learning, microlearning, job aids, and role-based learning paths, published as SCORM- and xAPI-compliant courseware in Storyline, Rise, and Captivate.
Selected results
Rescued a stalled SAP training program
Eversource Energy brought me back for a second engagement because a multi-year, cross-tower implementation had fallen behind on development and delivery timelines. Finished under budget and ahead of the original deadlines, with no additional hiring or spend.
Onboarded 400 employees in a three-week window
During a subsidiary acquisition, designed bespoke training on up to 13 applications per person and delivered all of it just in time, without disrupting daily operations for any employee or team.
Recovered eight weeks of lost project time
At E Source, partnered with the Testing Lead to build an integrated User Acceptance Testing and End User Training regimen that turned technical delays into training runway.
Turned a 200-page catalog into one page
At Camlock Systems, reduced the product catalog to a single-page infographic used by sales and distributors, raising customer satisfaction and sales while reducing call times. Camlock later brought me back to run product and project management for the US business.

Questions I get asked
What size training teams has Chris Martell led?
A 50-person organization of trainers, training leads, and content developers at Eversource Energy, with manager-level scope from July 2021. He was promoted from Instructional Designer to Learning & Development Lead within the first quarter of that engagement.
Is Chris looking for permanent or contract work?
Permanent. He’s seeking a long-term Manager, Learning & Development or Training Manager role where he can build a learning function over many years. He remains open to contract and project engagements when the fit is right.
Has Chris been invited back by former employers?
Yes, twice. Camlock Systems brought him back in 2022 after his first run there, and Eversource Energy brought him back in 2023 to rescue a stalled SAP implementation. Two of the three organizations he has worked with since 2018 hired him a second time.
Why does Chris’s history show several engagements since 2018?
Three organizations, not several jobs. Camlock Systems and E Source were permanent roles; Eversource Energy brought him in on two contract engagements, first to build a 50-person training organization and later to rescue a stalled SAP program. His E Source role ended when the client contract closed and the project team was eliminated in a company reorganization. Earlier in his career he ran his own school for ten years.
What’s the largest audience Chris has taught via instructor-led training?
300 participants at once — but he’s happy to break that record.
Which enterprise systems has Chris built training for?
SAP and SAP S/4HANA, Maximo, Enterprise Permitting and Licensing, metering applications and AMI, PowerBase and PBField, ClickSchedule and ClickMobile, plus field device rollouts including ruggedized handhelds, iPad, and VOIP telephony.
What instructional design models does Chris use?
ADDIE for the design lifecycle — analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The Kirkpatrick model, Levels 1 and 2, for measuring learner satisfaction and knowledge transfer.
What authoring and eLearning tools does Chris work in?
Articulate Storyline and Rise, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, Snagit, WalkMe, and Scribe. He publishes SCORM- and xAPI-compliant courseware and has administered LearningCentral as a companywide LMS.
Is Chris Martell available for remote work?
Yes. He’s open to remote, hybrid, and onsite roles, with onsite work centered on the Greater Hartford and New Haven areas of Connecticut.
Does Chris have experience in the utility and energy sector?
Yes — roughly five years across two engagements at Eversource Energy, a year at E Source consulting to utility clients, and a year at SolarCity in residential solar. That spans regulated utility compliance training, field workforce enablement, and enterprise system rollouts.
How does Chris measure whether training worked?
Against Kirkpatrick Levels 1 and 2 — learner satisfaction and knowledge transfer — alongside program metrics like completion, compliance, and schedule performance. At Eversource Energy this produced record-high scores of 99 percent or better.
Does Chris hold project management credentials?
Yes. Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute, credential number 4493050.
Has Chris Martell published anything?
Globe Pequot Press commissioned him to write Knack: Self-Defense for Women, published in 2011 under his former name, Chris Wright-Martell. He delivered the full manuscript in four months. He is currently writing a second book, a Training Program Manager’s Guide covering staffing, train the trainer initiatives, program design, and KPI measurement. He also holds United States Design Patent D926555 for a locking latch developed at Camlock Systems.
What’s Chris Martell’s educational background?
A Master of Science in Education in Curriculum & Instruction, Learning Design and Technology, from Purdue University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Has Chris built training programs from scratch?
Several times. He set the training and talent development strategy for the US business at Camlock Systems, and built the curriculum for eight self-defense programs and a formal instructor training track at Modern Self-Defense Center — lesson plans, instructor guides, and a mentored train-the-trainer pathway.
What I’m looking for
I’m looking for a permanent home — a team where I can build a learning function over the next ten years rather than the next ten months. I’ve done that kind of long-run building before: ten years running my own school and its instructor certification track, and three years owning staff training and certification across four Fred Astaire locations in New England.
Rescue jobs and rollouts are where I do my best work, and I’d take the right project again. But the pattern I want next is the one where I stay: hire the team, build the programs, and still be there when the third-year measurements come in.

I’m seeking a permanent Manager, Learning & Development or Training Manager role, remote, hybrid, or onsite in the Greater Hartford and New Haven areas. I also take on contract and project engagements when the fit is right.
